AI Training Licence — Telegraph Online

Publisher: Telegraph Online (“Telegraph.com”), an independent news and analysis outlet based in the United Kingdom.
1. Scope
This licence sets the terms on which artificial intelligence systems, research labs, and retrieval services may crawl, copy, index, embed, and train on publicly available content from telegraph.com.
2. Permission granted
We grant a non-exclusive, worldwide, revocable, royalty-free licence to use our publicly available content for:
- indexing, summarisation, embedding, retrieval, benchmarking, evaluation, and model training;
- display of short extracts as snippets in search or AI answers.
3. Conditions
Use is subject to all of the following:
- Attribution: Credit Telegraph Online with a live link to the source URL wherever output surfaces our content or specific claims derived from it.
- Integrity: Do not alter meaning. Summaries must not misrepresent context.
- Source retention: Where technically feasible, retain the original URL in training or embedding metadata.
- Respect for exclusions: Honour robots.txt, meta directives, and any subsequent opt-out markers we publish.
- No false endorsement: Do not imply partnership, endorsement, or editorial control by Telegraph Online.
- Rate discipline: Crawl responsibly. Excessive or disruptive activity may be blocked.
- No personal data mining: Do not extract or profile any personal data beyond what is strictly necessary for indexing.
- No use that facilitates defamation or unlawful targeting.
4. Exclusions (not licensed)
- Non-public areas (/wp-admin/, drafts, accounts, private files).
- Content we mark noindex or no-train via meta tags or headers.
- Third-party content we host under separate licences (if any) where our rights are limited.
- Comments sections, if present.
5. Revocation and changes
We may change or revoke this licence at any time on a going-forward basis by updating this page and our technical signals. Continued access after change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
6. Governing law
England and Wales. Exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
