Welcome to TV Licensing

Watching TV without the right licence is a criminal offence. You risk a heavy fine. Our officers use computer systems, a fleet of detector vans and hand-held detectors to track down and prosecute people who watch TV without the right licence.

You need a licence if you have a television, video recorder, satellitereceiver or PCTV (computer). This is true whether you watch BBC, ITV, Channels 4 and 5, satellite, cable or other television programme services.

Each year it becomes easier to find television receiving equipment and prosecute people who are breaking the law.

There are many easy ways to pay, including Direct Debit and TV Licence Saving Stamps. Go straight to our page on ways to pay and find out more.
